When the first full-length Indian feature silent film Raja Harishchandra released in 1913, all the female characters was played by males. The film had all male cast as no woman was available for playing female characters. Even today actors don’t hesitate to play female characters in the movies. There are many Bollywood superstars who played female roles and gave their best.
Aamir Khan
Mr. Perfectionsit of B-Town Aamir Khan in a movie ‘Baazi’ did an item song ‘Dole Dole Dil’ as a woman. Not only this Dangal star became woman for various advertisements brands like Tata-Sky, Coco-Cola and Godrej.
Govinda
Govinda played female roles in various movies and every time made us laugh. Govinda’s most famous role is from the movie Aunty No.1. The Comic King of B-Town played a female in the movies like Raja Babu and Haad Kar Di Aapne.
Riteish Deshmukh
No one can forget Ritesh Deshmukh’s role in the movie Apna Sapna Money Money. His gestures, ada’s and thumka’s have made his fans go mad. Not only this, Ritesh played female roles in many of his movies or I would say most of his movies. Even I personally feel that no one can play female roles better than Ritesh.
Salman Khan
Dabangg Khan has also gone inside the shoes of a woman. As Salman Khan made an appearance as a woman in his film ‘Jaan-E-Man’. And yes, he failed to grab appreciation from the audience.
Shahrukh Khan
King Khan too tried his hands as a woman in movie Duplicate but failed to pull it off well. All the three Khan’s of Bollywood tried their hands in becoming females and we can say Aamir did the best.
Shahid Kapoor
Kapoor’s are also not behind from Khans in playing a female character. Actor Shahid Kapoor was also seen in a short skirt, pink top, blonde hair and high heels in the movie ‘Milenge Milenge’. He pulled off the role quite well.
Shreyas Talpade
The actor proved himself in every role and character, so he did when he played a role of a female in the movie Paying Guest. He says, ‘Being a woman is an art’ and he is quite good in the art.
Shammi Kapoor
Told you, Kapoor’s are not behind. Legendary actor Shammi Kapoor has always pulled off his roles with charisma and brought grace and magic into his roles. Shammi Kapoor in the 1963 movie Bluff Master was seen dressed up as a woman.
Shashi Kapoor
The heartthrob of his time, veteran actor Shashi Kapoor has also played a role of a female in the 1968 movie Haseena Maan Jayegi and even danced like a courtesan.
Kamal Haasan
Kamal Hasan is known for choosing and playing amazing roles. His character in the movie Chachi 420 grabbed all the eyeballs. His role of Chachi had an appropriate mix of womanness and looks appealing too.

How can we forget Arshad Warsi’s interpretation of Rani Mukherji’s character of ‘Black’ movie in his movie Golmal and Golmaal Returns. He made everyone laugh. In Golmaal Returns Arshad’s co-stars Ajay Devgn, Ritesh Deshmukh, and Shreyas Talpade were also seen in the female avatar.
Humshakals
The movie failed badly at the box office and so as Saif Ali and Ram Kapoor’s female avatar in the film. The only actor who pulled off a female character with grace, among all three, was Ritesh Deshmukh.
Style
The movie was a comedy drama and the lead actors Sharman Joshi and Sahil Khan entertain the audience to the fullest. But what grabs the attention was their part as a woman, which these actors carried off well.
