Indu Sakar Movie Review: Kriti Kulhari, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Anupam Kher

Today, four movies has been released at the box office, Madhur Bhandarkar’s Indu Sarkar, Arjun Kapoor and Anil Kapoor starrer Mubarkan, Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Raag Desh and Baaraat Company.

Let’s take Indu Sarkar first to review, which has been directed by Madhur Bhandarkar and features Kriti Kulhari, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Anupam Kher in the title role. The film is based on the emergency period in India, but in disclaimer, it has attempted to record that it is mostly a fiction based film.

From the title of the film, it seems that they would have featured former late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. However, it is not like that, Indur Sarkar is a common citizen who is an orphan and during the emergency period she found two orphan kids in the riot and tried to save them.

The story begins with the search the parents of those two kids and providing them a shelter. All this circumstance give birth to Indu Sarkar. This is the basic plot of the film and now let’s see the movie from my perspective.

The story and the screenplay is really good, though the film started at a slow pace and remains the same for first 40-50 minutes, but after that, the movie holds the grip and turns out to be much better. Madhur Bhandarkar tries to give a strong movie.

If we talk about acting, Kriti Kulhari’s performance was very strong and commendable. She was seen in the title role and yes she did a great job. This is her second film after PINK, and with her performance, she told everyone that she is going to play long innings.

Niel Nitin Mukesh also did a tremendous job, he plays the role of Sanjay Gandhi (younger son of Indira Gandhi). But in the whole film he was never called by this name, although his role is small but whatever screen time he has given he did a fabulous job.

The third character is of Naveen Sarkar, plays by Tota Ram Chaudhary and again he too did a great work. I can only say that, on acting part, there is hardly any character whose acting is weak.

Background of the film is also good, which makes the movie interesting. The makers of the film also used an old Kawaali song which perfectly suits the whole scenario. The cinematography is again commendable, the film has been shot very sharply. Characters’ costume and makeup will take you to the era of the 70s, Madhur Bhandarkar has also taken a great care of small little things.

If they had managed to handle the starting 40-minutes of the movie, then this film could prove to be a super hit film. If you are going to watch this film, thinking that you will be going to see the entire story of the emergency period then this would be wrong because only the demolition of the Turkman Gate area is shown in the movie.

Overall the film is good and a one time watch. My rating for this film is 2.5 out of 5.
