This Friday two much talked about movies Maatr and Noor will face clash at the box office. Both the movies are women centric and showing the new side of a woman. But on Sunday there were few stories doing around Raveena Tandon’s comeback movie Maatr. It is to be said that Maatr has been banned by the Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC).

The reason for this alleged ban was the film’s violent rape scenes. As per reports when contacted to Anjum Rizvi, producer of Maatr, he said, “I don’t know where these news have come from. Maatr will be viewed by the CBFC on Monday, i.e today, the film is hence not banned.”

On the other hand, a source very close to the film said, on the condition of anonymity, “Yes, the CBFC has banned the film and they walked out of the screening on Saturday evening. However, they are going to reconsider the movie on Monday. The CBFC has said that the film has very graphic content which was way different than the original screenplay submitted to them. We were told that the CBFC found the film’s content to be violating many guidelines for certification. So even if the film is to get an ‘A’ certificate, there will be many cuts that we are expected to make.”

While Raveena Tandon and CBFC chairman Pahlaj Nihalani were not available to comment. According to reports, Nihalani is quoted saying, “We have done our best to accommodate this film’s requirements. we even opened the CBFC office on Saturday, a non-working-day, to review the film.”

As the reports, the final verdict will come on Monday. So it has been reported that CBFC refused certification owning to some gruesome scene that were deemed inappropriate for viewing by the Board.

The decision has not gone down well with Raveena and she asserted that the Censor Board is bound by ‘archaic law’ and it should consider changing wit the times. She further says, that the film like ‘Maatr’ needs to be told without sugar coating the content and if we don’t show the reality, then the audience will remain indifferent to brutality and rape will still remain a taboo.

Many films this year faced lot many trouble related to CBFC bann and certification issue. We hope the audience will be able to watch amazing movies, especially which gives social message.

The movie is a revenge thriller directed by Ashtar Sayed and written by Michael Pellico. It is slated to release on April 21, but as per current situation, it might have to delay its release.
