Brave Bollywood Celebs Who Battled Depression And Mental Disorders

Bollywood actors and actress do lot many things to maintain their celebrity status and tries to hide the personal things. Up until the time, B-town celebs never opens about their personal lives in front of the camera. It was only after Deepika Padukone’s confession about her health issues which inspires many celebs to be open and spoke about their issues.

Deepika Padukone boldly and strongly opened up about her problem of mental disorder and her battle with depression. Her confession inspires many, so let us know about the celebs who faced and battled depression and other mental issues.

Deepika Padukone- The actress was the first one who comes out in open to declare her mental issues and addressed to the entire world and talked about how she’d suffered from serious depression due to her failed relationship. She was at the peak of her career when she faced the problem and how she coped it. Deepika also runs the NGO named Live Love Laugh Foundation for those who diagnosed with depression and other mental issues.

Shah Rukh Khan- Even Baadshah of Bollywood suffer from a mental disorder. SRK revealed that after his shoulder injury he thought that he won’t be able to give the same kind of performance on the screen which landed up in depression. But the King of Bollywood recovered from his physical and mental health issues.

Manisha Koirala- One of the most established actresses of B-town, Manisha suffered from clinical depression and her ex-husband Samrat Dahlal was the reason behind her condition. She battled depression and is also a cancer survivor.

Tiger Shroff- After receiving a reasonable amount of success and applaud, Tiger faced a tough time when his movie ‘A Flying Jatt’ bombed at the box office. The actor revealed that he underwent a phase of ‘hardcore depression’. But time, support and his work helped him to overcome the problem.

 Jiah Khan- The actress suffers from loneliness which led her to depression, the reason behind it was Jiah’s alleged boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi and also her family. Jiah’s father disowned her when she chose a career in Bollywood. Jiah couldn’t handle the amount of stress, she was undergoing and succumbed to depression resulting in a horrifying suicide.

Yo Yo Honey Singh- After Deepika Padukone, Yo Yo Honey Singh shared the news of his mental disorder with everyone like a true rockstar. Honey Singh was suffering from Bipolar Disorder which was the reason we all have been missing his peppy songs. It took almost a year and half to him to recover.

Illeana D’Cruz- The actress in an interview talked about her struggle with Body Dysmorphic Disorder, depression and anxiety. Her family and friend’s support help her during tough times and in overcoming these mental issues.

Amitabh Bachchan- Big B has also been faced the issue of depression. The actor turned producer in 1996 with his company ABCL and back to back failure of his films, Amitabh went bankrupt and entered a phase of deep depression. But he didn’t accept his failure, he revived his acting career and become who he is today.

Parveen Babi- One of the most beautiful and talented actresses of her time. Parveen Babi was suffering from Schizophrenia, which takes toll on her personal as well as professional life. She also suffered from major depression during her last days and did not also get out of her house. The actress was found dead on January 2005 and police suspected that she has been dead for 72 hours.

Anushka Sharma- Anushka Sharma also revealed her problem while responding to the quote related to depression on twitter. She shared that she is suffering from anxiety issues and treating the same with the help of medication. She also said it is a normal issue people are facing and in her case, it is a biological problem as there have been cases of depression in her family.

Sanjay Dutt- Sanjay Dutt is the actor who most of the times surrounded with controversies. But the actor falls into the trap of depression when he lost his mother and wife due to cancer and the allegation of his involvement in the ‘93 Mumbai blasts. The actor revealed that his imprisonment made him get into depression and he was even unable to sleep.

Rajesh Khanna- Rajesh Khanna is India’s first superstar and his story of the rise to fame is known to everyone. But his downfall is no less dramatic, the actor went into depression following his downfall during the 90s. His failed marriage also contributed to it and the actor never recovered from it, that led to his death at the age of 69.

Varun Dhawan- Many of us are unaware of the fact that actor Varun Dhawan disclosed his problem of battling depression during the shooting days of Badlapur. The actor says that he was not clinically declared depressed but was heading towards it.

Shama Sikander- The actress also came out boldly and disclosed that she suffered from bipolar disorder. She told a leading daily, “I was dating Alex (O’Neil – actor) at that time and he has a psychological degree. He pointed it out to me and at first, my reaction was, ‘No, I am not going to a doctor. I am perfectly fine and there is nothing wrong with me’. However, he insisted that I have a condition and I should address it.” Even though she has overcome the disorder, but still feels gloomy and dark about the dreadful past.

Randeep Hooda- Randeep Hooda also revealed about being depressed during the shoot of Highway and Sarbjit. But he overcomes the issue.

Dilip Kumar- Dilip Kumar is one of the most revered actors of Bollywood who was deeply in love with his Mughal-e-Azam co-star Madhubala. But due to some reasons, the duo couldn’t be together and after Madhubala’s death, Dilip Kumar went into depression although he was married to Saira Banu.
