Vinod Khanna: A Villian Turned Hero

Vinod Khanna was an Indian actor and producer of Bollywood films. The most handsome and charming looking actor of his time passed away on 27 April 2017. Khanna was also an active politician, in 1969 made her acting debut as a supporting actor and portrays the role of a lead antagonistic.

In 1972 he got his first film as a lead in the movie Mere Apne. The actor was also become popular for the cop roles and looks extremely handsome. Vinod Khanna was the heartthrob of his times and is known for his distinct style and persona.

Not only this he was also made quite an impression as an angry young man and a scowling dacoit in many flicks. Before getting the main lead role the actor played low-down characters in the films like Purab Aur Paschim, Sachaa Jhutha, Aan Milo Sajna and Mastana and Mera Gaon Mera Desh and Elaan.

The actor literally bled to infuse realism into the role in the movie Mera Gao Mera Desh and won rave reviews for his performance in songless movie Achanak. He also attempts risky roles and broke the taboo about lovemaking in the movie Shaque.

Bollywood also saw the era of Multiple hero trends and the actor star in 47 multi-hero films and made his roles iconic in those films. In 1982 he temporarily quit the industry and became the disciple of Osho, it was the peak time of his career and he became the first actor to retire at his peak.

Vinod Khanna explores many aspects of his life and in 1997 he joined BJP, and this ‘abhineta-turned-neta’ proved himself in politics too. He was the MP from Gurdaspur.

If we talk about his early and personal life, Vinod Khanna was born in a Punjabi family on 6 October 1946 in Peshawar (now in Pakistan). After his birth, India was partitioned and his family moved to Mumbai.

Vinod Khanna met his first love and wife Gitanjali and get married to her in 1971. They both had two sons Rahul and Akshaye, they both are Bollywood actors. In 1985, Vinod Khanna and Gitanjali settled for divorce.

In 1990 he married Kavita Daftary and had a son Sakshi and a daughter Shraddha. The actor was last seen in the movie Dilwale in 2015 as Randhir Bakshi.

The problem occurs when on 2 April 2017 he was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai after suffering from severe dehydration and it was revealed that he had been battling advanced bladder cancer. He died on 27 April 2017 at 11.20 A.M and was cremated on the same day.

The actor gave the industry most iconic roles and films to remember. There are some songs picturised on the actor which are still fresh in everyone’s head. The death of this veteran actor is a loss to the industry and he will always topped the list of the best actors of Bollywood of his time.
